REPLAY Installation Instructions for BBC Model 'B' Microcomputer OS 1.20
Vine Micros can accept no responsibility for damage caused by incorrect installation by the user.
Turn off and disconnect your BBC Computer from the mains. Remove the REPLAY circuitry from its box, and make sure that no pins have been bent whilst in transit.
1. Remove the top cover by undoing the four 'fix' screws as shown in fig.A.
2. Undo the keyboard nuts and bolts as in fig.B.
3. Either swing the keyboard round to expose the front of the BBC's circuit board (PCB), or remove the keyboard by pulling off the keyboard connector from the KEYBOARD PCB and the speaker connector which is also connected to the main board.
4. Insert the REPLAY ROM into one of the ROM sockets on the main computer (see fig. 1). REPLAY will work on some ROM expansion boards, but this depends on their circuitry. REPLAY's priority is not important.
5. Next remove the furthest jumper on S21 (a jumper is a small black shorting-connector), and push on REPLAY's connector instead - see section 2 on fig.C, and fig.2. (It will only go on one way round.)
6. Section 3 in Fig.C shows where to position the 16 pin IC header, and Fig.3 shows the header's orientation (with the notch towards the back of the computer.) The header itelf fits tightly OVER IC20 (the pins of the header gripping onto the chip's pins), making a connection to pin 7. See fig.5
7. The method of the next (and final) connection will depend on how the circuitry is supplied. You will either have a clip-on probe which fits to pin 6 on the 65O2 processor as in fig. 4b (or alternatively pin 8 on IC27), or you will have a 14 pin header which fits in the same way as the 16 pin header except to pin 8 of IC27 (see fig.4a).
8. Installation is now complete. Reconnect the speaker and keyboard connectors, and, after re-checking ALL connnections, turn the computer back on. The computer should function as normal, if not then turn off immediately.
9. Press REPLAY's switch once, and the keyboard lights should flash alternately, indicating that it is working properly.
10. We recommend fixing REPLAY's switch in the RESET hole at the back of the computer, although this will mean cutting a small hole in the black plastic covering. Alternatively the switch lead is long enough to extend out of the back of the computer through the ventilation slot.
11. Switch off the computer and secure the keyboard and cover.
