The character set for Mode 7 is in the SA5050 chip. In Norway we have 29 letters in the alphabet, it ends like this: xyzæøå In the 8 bit machines that used 7 bit ASCII it was a "industry standard" to use the characters just after Z [\] as æøå. This meant that we had to change to a Norwegian OS, which solved the problem in mode 0-6. The SA5050 however has it's own character set, so we had to piggyback a SA5052 on top. We the used a dentists tool and a soldering iron and dragged out the chip enable pin of the original SA5052 out of the motherboard. Just because it was useful we installed a switch so that we could switch between UK and Norwegian characters. The switch could be used on the fly, I can try to make a video of the swiching the next time I have power on one of the Masters here.
