CFBACKUP.EXE & CFRESTORE.EXE Ver 1.01 ---------------------------- These programs are designed to make a backup image of an 8 bit ADFS filing system on a Compact Flash card to a PC Hard drive via a USB Card Reader, and to write it back again, to the same, or a different card. The Image they create is compatible with ADFS Explorer, which can be found on this CD. These 2 programs are supplied as Freeware, but ADFS Explorer is Shareware, and requires a small registration fee - please see the Authors website for details. To use these programs: 1) Copy these files into the root of your C: Drive 2) Open a DOS Box using START -> RUN then type CMD and click OK 3) Navigate to the root C drive by typing CD C:\ ---------------------------------------- To back up a CF card to disc, at the DOS prompt type: CFBACKUP h C:\CF.DAT <0 or 1> Where h is the drive letter of the CF Card slot, and C:\CF.DAT is the file to store the backup. <0 or 1> is an optional partition number. For single partition cards, you can omit this, if you have a 2GB card with 2 partitions, put a 1 at the end to specify partition 1. You can then load CF.DAT into ADFS Explorer to manipulate files or use it with BeebEm to emulate the hard disc. ---------------------------------------- To restore a .dat file to your CF card, at the DOS prompt type: CFRESTORE h C:\CF.DAT Where h is the drive letter of the CF Card slot, and C:\CF.DAT is the file to restore to the card. <0 or 1> is an optional partition number. For single partition cards, you can omit this, if you have a 2GB card with 2 partitions, put a 1 at the end to specify partition 1 IMPORTANT: You need to be careful with the restore since if you use CFRESTORE C C:\CF.DAT by mistake, you will trash your hard drive, so please take care to select the correct drive for restore. ---------------------------------------- cf1gb_xxxx.dat is a test image you may load onto a compact flash containing games, utilities etc. You must use the correct size of flash, in this case 1GB. Other images on this CD are supplied untested and on a strictly as-is basis. Image prefix "v" is for the BBC Master, "b" is for the BBC Model B disk system and "t" is for the BBC Model B with no disk interface. KNOWN BUGS ---------- --> Currently, it seems you have to format a card on the beeb first before restoring. This seems to be apparant on some cards and not others. If you still have a problem, disable write caching on the USB Card Reader. --> Take care not to restore to your Hard drive, there is currently no method to prevent this from happening. --> When restoring, you must us a same, or larger size of CF card to restore the image. The results will be unpredictable if you use a smaller one. Use ADFS Explorer to manipulate different Hard Drive sizes. Please let me know if you have any issues with the software, or you may contact the Author directly if you prefer. These 2 programs have been written specially for use with this kit, and have been extensively tested, but as with any freeware software, no guarantee can be made as to it's operation on any particular computer configuration or operating system.
