Thanks for a prompt reply Rich. Ok, they're both B's and both boot up!
One machine has a rotary knob on the keyboard (diagonally left of "shift lock" AND a small toggle switch on the left hand side of the unit. It also has a second processor unit and a Cumana disc drive attached, if the extra switches are anything to do with them?!?
By the way, will an ordinary din to din lead do the RGB to monitor conection, the one supplied is very dodgy!
Thanks again - Andy

Hi,

Ok, we got the first bit sorted, there Model Bs.

As for the rotary knob, many Beebs seem to have had home modifications made to them by electronics enthusiasts over the years, mainly due to the simplicity of them, try it with a PC Arf!!

At a rough guess I'd say the knob is probably a Volume control, and the switch might disable sound to the speaker all together, but without taking a peek inside I cant say for sure, only experimentation with it will show you.
I dont think there anything to do with the second processor or drives, tho its possible the swith might be something to do with drives.

As for the Monitor cable, I wouldnt like to say as I dont know the pinouts off the top of my head.

If you need a new lead, try contacting Chris, who runs this website, he'll more than likely be able to sort you one. His email is on the 8BS main page.
