BBC Model B Very Ill

One of my BBC Model Bs is desperately ill - the usual start-up message appears but random sounds are produced all the time. The keyboard only works for a few seconds then BREAK has to be pressed to reactivate the keys. It is a beautiful Issue 4 with DNFS - can anybody prescribe the appropriate medicine or surgery to restore this ailing Beeb?
